Choosing a Career Path

Choosing the right career is a daunting task. Especially as a high school student who doesn't know themself very well yet. I think that in high school you should pick a career to pursue, but if you find out that it's not your dream job, then don't be afraid to change your mind! You've still got time. I would recomend doing as many job shadows as you possibly can to explore different careers. Even shadow jobs that you aren't interested in. You never know if that will surprise you and you'll love it! Or you'll just be able to learn from the experience. Job shadowing is a highly valuable activity. Last year I really wanted to plan out the rest of my life, so I decided that I would be a pharmacist because it sounded like a good option. I enrolled in an Allied Health program, and that was very beneficial to me. Even though I didn't pursue that course further, I am still very glad that I took those classes that year. So, I was taking those classes, and my plan was to complete that course, have my pharmaceutical technician certificate, work as a pharmacy technician after high school, and continure to go to school to become a pharmacist. This all made perfect sense to me, until I job shadowed a pharmacist. The reality of it was a little different than my plans. I was able to talk with a pharmacist, and a pharmaceutical technician and get the inside scoop. Turns out that being a pharmacy technician and pharmacist won't fit into my long term life goals, and I don't think that I would be happy in that career. I am not back to square one of figuring out what career path I want to follow, but at least I'm not on the wrong one altogether. I know that I want to do something with business. Other than that, I could truly do anything. I know that anything that I choose to do will be succesful; it's just that I want to be happy while doing it. Moral of the story; job shadowing is where it's at if there is a career you are considering. Have a look around before you dive in.
