Applying For a Job

For my Future Business Leaders of America, Leader Level, one of the requirements is to participate in a mock interview. As I've been preparing for it, it has been crazy to think about how real this will be soon! Throughout high school I have volunteered a ton, but I've never had a legitimate job before. I'm really glad that having a job interview is one of the requirements. It will make it that much easier when the time actually comes for me to apply for an actual job.
So to help you figure it out, here are a couple of questions to expect when being interviewed as well as some good questions to ask during your interview.
Questions to Expect
Tell me about my company.
You should research information on the company size, its key products and services, the markets that it competes in, and the reputation of the company. You should be prepared to explain why you want to work at the company. Use this question as an opportunity to show how excited and passionate that you are to work for them!
What do you do in your spare time?
Don't brag about car racing, sky diving, scuba diving, or any other dangerous activities. Be honest about what you enjoy doing. Emphasize your involvement in the community, and other activities that reflect self-awareness and self-care. Show how you balance your life.
Questions to Ask
What do you expect me to accomplish in the first 60 to 90 days?
It's important to understand what will be expected of you so that you'll be able to be effective. Good employees won't wait around for the first few months getting their feet wet; they'll want to make a difference in the company right away. This is a thoughtful question that will show that you intend to hit the ground running.
What do your employees do in their spare time?
This question might not be the easiest for your employer to answer; depending on how large the company is. Company culture is important however, and I think that the happiest employees enjoy what they are doing and who they are working with. This also shows that you may have other options, and that you are actively figuring out if this job will be the right fit for you.
